About

What's behind the name?

Cincinatti

The name Losantiville was the original name of Cincinnati, created in 1788 by the settlement's surveyor, John Filson. It is a clever, multilingual portmanteau (a blend of words) that serves as a literal description of the city's location. Here is how the name was formed:

L: Represents the Licking River, which flows directly opposite the original settlement.
os: Derived from the Latin word for "mouth".
anti: Derived from the Greek word for "opposite" or "against".
ville: Derived from the French word for "city" or "town".
When you put all the pieces together, the name translates literally to "The town opposite the mouth of the Licking River."

Losidem Labs

Here is how our company name, Losidem, breaks down using the exact same linguistic logic as the original settlement:

L: Represents the Licking River, the geographic anchor of the original location.
os: Derived from the Latin word for "mouth."
idem: Derived from the Latin word for "same" or "the same."
When you put all the pieces together, your company name translates literally to "The same mouth of the Licking River."
